Oo! HUMSS Ako
Since then, the Liberating Arts is seen as a useless course for may people. For some, they think that Liberating Arts won't even be a challenge for the students for there will be less Math and Science. There are also some cases that when you introduce yourself as a part of the Humss Strand, most likely they would mistakenly expects you to be a psychologist or a guidance counselor. They also often think that people who graduated in this course would most likely to end up poor for the jobs which are inclined to this course are not in demand, the salaries are not high enough to support one self or it's family.
These are just some of the misconceptions and beliefs to the Humss Strand and people. That's why I have listed some things that most people don't know about Humss. Here's the list proving that the Humss Strand has so much to offer. Humss Rocks!
1. They are in-demand
Who said we're not indemand or useless for today's generation? Well here's to prove those close minded people that WE are indemand for today. According to Karen Abigail Williams, Director of Admission at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts in New York, "A Liberal Arts education is more important than ever because with the recent economic downturn, we witnessed the decline of several important industries, leaving highly skilled employees out of work in careers where job growth is not expected."
Employers are finally starting to realize that the Humss people and their communication skill aren't as easy to find or teach. So we may not be experts in Math and Science, but we can still learn them, but acquiring communication skills? that's something harder to learn than Math and Science.
2. Liberal Arts better than Math and Science?
We can not say that Liberal Arts is better than Math and Science for both field has it's own specializations that others can't have. However, seeing Math and Science as separate and different from Liberal Arts can damage both Sciences. Just to be clear, Math and Science are under Liberal Arts. Since the medieval time, when the Liberal Arts are starting to develop, they made up of Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, Music, Arithmetic, Geometry and Astronomy. As you can see, Arithmetic, Geometry and Astronomy are counted as under Math and Science today. Mind blown right?
3. Humss is Challenging
There are also other assumptions that Humss was not even challenging because there's no Math and Science. In Liberation arts, people are taught how to think systematically and rigolously. they learn how to assess assumptions, develop strategies from problem solving, test ideas against evidence, use reason to grapple with information to come to new conclusions and develop courses of action to pursue those conclusion. In short, Liberation Arts is not all about learning the prescription to achieve a textbook result rather to have an intellectual capacity to analyze issues which there is yet no answer.
So incase you won't believe me, my eyebags is a proof that Humss is REALLY a challenge.
4. Humss can contribute to society.
Some close minded people thinks that the Humss strand can not contribute a lot to the society, but here's a list to prove the wrong!
